Nöjesfabriken in Karlstad

The Swedish word Nöjesfabriken translates literally as ‘the entertainment factory'. Given that it is housed in an old factory, it’s a pretty good name.

Nöjesfabriken splits into two; one part is distinctly for big kids with two live stages, a pulsating nightclub, bar, restaurant and a ten-pin bowling hall with ‘disco bowling’. This place is legendary in Karlstad and party-goers and rock fans from far and wide come to enjoy its delights. Morrisey, Soundtrack of Our Lives and Takida and other major international acts have all played here; giving you some idea of its drawing power.

The other part of Nöjesfabriken is very definitely for small kids and for their parents and it is called Leklandet, or ‘play land’ in English. If your kids love thrills, spills, jumping and climbing – and let’s face it, they all do - then this is the place to come. You can easily spend a morning or afternoon here, or even longer, as your kids probably wont want to leave.

Some of the highlights of Leklandet include an 8-metre high drop slide, trampolines, a ‘ball canon’, giant climbing frames, a mini racetrack and much, much more. Mum and dads meanwhile can enjoy a traditional Swedish ‘café och bulle’ – which is a coffee and cinnamon bun. It’s worth pointing that in child-friendly Sweden safety always comes first and the same is true of Leklandet. There are play areas for infants (0-1 year) and toddlers (1-3 year) after that it is a free-for-all.

Just for your information, don’t dress your kid in jeans when coming to Leklandet. For maximum sliding efficiency dress them in track pants as they will go faster and further!
