Stay

Across the wide range of accommodation options in Karlstad you’ll often get a room with a view. As well as the views most accommodation is either in the city centre or very close to it. So you won’t have to carry your shopping bags far.
Lake views, city views, river views? You can get them all in Karlstad.
Take Skutberget or Bomstabaden camping resorts on the shores of Lake Vänern for example; you wake up in the morning with views across one of the Europe’s largest and most beautiful lakes. Accommodation here, just 7 km and 9 km outside the city includes your own caravan, camper van or tent, or one of the many simple, but charming holiday cabins at these sites.

If you’d like a real ‘classic Karlstad’ stay then look no further than the Elite Stadshotell, one of the city’s oldest hotels with views across the Klara River and the beautiful Teaterparken. Or perhaps a room at the Clarion Collection Hotell Bilan, which used to be a prison and therefore views were not a priority. These days though it is a quality hotel with a fine wine cellar we hear and the hotel runs ‘prisoner evenings’ – sounds captivating. Just a stone’s from the Karlstad railway station is Clarion Collection Hotel Drott that is housed in an art nouveau building from 1909. The hotel has been completely renovated but retains the essence of the style of the age. The Scandic City meanwhile is Karlstad’s newest hotel. Located on Drottninggatan, it is smack bang in the middle of the city and therefore the sights and delights of Karlstad are literally on your doorstep.

In addition to hotel stays Karlstad also has a number of good hostels to stay in, one of them is the STF Karlstad Vandrarhem in the ‘up and coming’ Kasernhöjden area of the city. It lies close to the city centre and offers simple, comfortable accommodation at a moderate price. Doesn’t get much better.
